Original French edition of this manual intended for students and midwives, the latter being “so deprived in this country of the necessary means to achieve a methodical knowledge of their art.”
This treatise was composed by Jean Bernard Jacobs, professor and assessor of the college of medicine of Ghent.
Jacobs intended this book exclusively for students and midwives. Not claiming to create a new treatise on childbirth, he contented himself with combining the best observations from the greatest practitioners, which he added to his own, and followed the principles and order adopted by the Geneva physician Jean Jacques Plenck (1738-1807).
The edition is adorned with 21 copper-engraved plates, including 2 fold-outs.
The plates, engraved by Tiberghien et Wauters, are also borrowed from other works such as those of Pierre Camper or Édouard Sandifort.
Fine copy preserved in its contemporary binding.
