Superb collection gathering 333 plates of military uniforms in color.

The present collection was composed between 1900 and 1905 by Gabriel Cottreau, an active member of the “La Sabretache”.

Founded in 1891 by the painter Édouard Detaille, “La Sabretache” was at the origin of the Army Museum. This French society of studies of military history gathers amateurs wishing to preserve the memory and save the glorious memories of the French army by broadcasting the liking and military history and gathering items of collections and military souvenirs.

Gabriel Cottreau gathered in 3 folio volumes the engravings of troop uniforms from all the regions of France on the eve of Revolution, between 1779 and 1788, including the ones of Port-au-Prince, Martinique, Guadeloupe… The collection also presents the uniforms of the infantry regiment from Switzerland, Ireland, Sweden, Italy, Germany…

Each engraving has a handwritten caption written by Gabriel Cottreau.

The abundant illustration comprises 333 superb full-page plates engraved by Gosselin after Nicolas Hoffmann (1740-1832), entirely stenciled by Gabriel Cottreau between 1900 and 1905: grenadiers, jägers, militias, gunner, sappers, …
