First and only official edition of the Code de Procédure Civilepour le Royaume d’Italie printed in Milan in 1806 by the Imperial printing press.

“The Civil Code has accompanied the history of Italian civil law since 1806, when the Italian version of the Code’ was published in Milan under the title ‘Civil Code of the Kingdom of Italy’. This code constitutes the model of the Civil Codes of pre-unitary Italy, of the Civil Code of 1865 of United Italy and still represents a landmark for Italian culture of the twentieth century, during which an attempt to ‘ Franco-Italian Code of Obligations’ has been drawn up […].

The Civil Code, translated into Italian in 1806, came into force in the regions that make up the Kingdom of Italy of Napoleonic origin. By express legal prescription (royal decree of November 15, 1808), the Italian version is introduced in universities and high schools in an edition which gives a comparison with Roman law.”

The publication decree was signed by the Emperor at the Palais de Saint Cloud on June 17, 1806.It involved translating the French Code of Civil Procedure into the Italian language and adapting it to the Kingdom of Italy.

Nel suo complesso il codice francese è fra tutti i codici contemporanei la più alta espressione legislativa della uguaglianza e della libertà civile, la vera conquista non peritura della grande rivoluzione.” (Del Giudice).v <<
