Original editions of Knoop’s 3 major books, considered the reference treatise on pomology of the 18th century.
Nissen, 1078 (Pomologia) and 1077 (Fructologia); Pritzel, 4755 (Dendrologia); Stafleu, TL2 3766, 3767 and 3768.
The first work, devoted to pomology, is adorned with 20 superb full-page plates illustrating apples and pears in sumptuous detail, entirely hand-painted at the time; 12 for apples and 8 for pears.
The second work is a treatise on fructology. It contains descriptions of apple trees, pear trees, quince trees, cherry trees, plum trees, apricot trees, peach trees, almond trees, fig trees, grapevines, chestnut trees, walnut trees, hazelnut trees, medlars, mulberries, raspberry bushes, blackberries, currants, barberries, and dogwoods.
This treatise on fructology is adorned with 19 beautiful plates depicting each described fruit (275 x 210 mm), including 2 for currants, in very fresh coloring.
As for the third work, it deals with the planting of trees and the practice of French-style gardening.
Working copy – the binding is worn – printed on large Dutch paper, with full margins and uncut, with the plates in sumptuous hand-coloring of the period.
