Full red morocco, wide gilt border around the covers, arms of the Emperor Napoleon I gilt-stamped in the center of the covers, flat spine richly gilt bearing the title in a green morocco lettering piece, gilt edges. Contemporary binding with mosaic patterns.

The printed dedication is intended for the princess de Lucques et Piombino (Elisa Bacciochi).

Text in Italian and French. A portrait of the author drawn and engraved by Boucheron and 15 plates engraved by Boucheron from the drawings of the sculptor Comolli, including 2 on double page.

Precious and remarkable copy printed on large imperial paper offered to the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte.

The Emperor didn’t have much time to collect; nevertheless he owned a library, but it only contained classical works. These books bore on the covers the eagle of the empire.
